Hi, Kosmos Friends!
I'm happy to welcome our Board Leaders and Coordinators for our 2026-2027 Kosmos year. Thank you all for volunteering your time in keeping our Club together.
This month we have three dinners, one breakfast, and one lunch. There is a Kosmos Leader who will be on hand to greet you as host for each of these restaurant meals. We had 14 attendees at our special outing at the Pasco Eagles in July, and 18 at the Outback. We are pleased to see good turnouts at some of these happy hour and meal events!
For August, we also have the monthly Movie Matinee, as well as Game Day and a Bunko Party, plus the option to join Kosmos members at the Benton-Franklin Fair's Horse Heaven Roundup on Thursday night during Fair week. Details on all these are in this newsletter!
Please keep your calendar and newsletter handy so you don't miss out on anything! I look forward to seeing you at some of our activities!!!
And please don't forget to renew your membership this month! More information on that is also in this newsletter!

All Kosmos members are welcome to attend Board Meetings.
On July 8 we held elections for the seven leadership positions on the Kosmos Board for the 2026-2027 Kosmos fiscal year. Sadly, only 15 members attended to vote. And, we still need someone to fill the role of Activities Leader!

| Secretary | Sue R. |
| Treasurer | Claudia T. |
| Membership | Sandy R. |

The full Board list of Leaders and Coordinators is in this newsletter, as usual. Meanwhile, here's more about the open Activities position:
The Activities Leader attends our Board meetings on the first Thursday of each month. He or she must have some computer skills and can also ask other Kosmos members to be on a committee to meet once a month to help plan activities.

Another fun afternoon of Bunko is scheduled for August 22. Bunko is a dice game with players divided into groups of four who try to score points while taking turns rolling three dice. Winners at the end of a series of games win money.
You need to bring $5.50 in dollar bills and/or quarters, plus an appetizer or dessert to share. Bottled water will be available, but you can also bring your own non-alcoholic beverage.
We meet at the Richland Library in either Room A or B, which are just to your right when you enter the building. Hostess Sue R. will be there early, so you will see her at the door.
If you plan to attend the Bunko Party, please call or text Sue so she knows you plan to join in on the fun!
Directions: The Richland Library is located at the corner of Northgate Drive and Swift Blvd., in Richland, kitty-corner from Kadlec Hospital.
We extend a warm welcome to our newest member of the Kosmos family:
Randy D.
We also want to update members on the surname of a new member we welcomed last Fall as Kathryn B. She actually goes by Kathryn (Kathy) D. Our apologies for the error in our announcement.
Monday, September 7
Lawrence Scott Park
6020 W. Quinault Avenue
Kennewick
Socializing & Check-in: 12:30 PM
Meal: 1:00 PM
Festivities for our annual Labor Day Picnic at this new venue will begin at 12:30 PM with checking in and socializing. The main meal will start at 1:00 PM.
As usual, Kosmos will provide fried chicken, as well as all serving utensils, plates, and tableware. You are asked to bring an appetizer, salad, casserole, or dessert to go with the chicken. We ask that you please have all desserts pre-cut for serving!
Although there is seating in the covered pavilion, feel free to bring your own chairs. The pavilion Kosmos reserved has metal picnic tables with benches. There are electric outlets, and the restrooms are right next to the pavilion.
Also, bring what you want to drink, but keep in mind that this is a City park—alcohol is prohibited. Please remember to bring and wear your name tags so everyone will know who you are.
Guests are welcome to come and bring a dish as well. They will charged a $5.00 fee, or they can join Kosmos that day in lieu of the fee.
Please plan to come socialize at our good old-fashioned Labor Day Picnic!!!
Directions: From Columbia Center Blvd., turn onto Canal Drive. Then turn right on North Kellogg Street (a McDonald's is on that corner). The entry to the park's big parking lot is just before you reach Quinault Ave. The Pavilion is next to the pickleball courts.
If you can volunteer your time for setup or cleanup at the Labor Day Picnic, please contact Donna W. by September 2nd. We will be setting up from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM.
Setting up involves wiping down picnic tables and benches and covering them with tablecloths; placing paper goods, utensils, and signs on the serving tables; and setting up the pools with ice to keep salads and other perishable items cold.
Cleanup involves wiping the tablecloths and folding them up; throwing away any trash and putting paper goods and dirty utensils in the Kosmos storage containers; emptying the ice and water out of the two cold pools, and drying them before folding them for storage.
Thank you for your time and assistance!
This month is the time to renew your annual membership with a donation of $25. If you wish to have your Kosmos calendar and the Kosmos Konnector newsletter mailed to you each month, the cost is an additional $20 for the year.
A Membership Form is included with the E-mail and postal versions of this newsletter, and forms will also be available at the Labor Day Picnic. You can also download a PDF copy of the membership form from the Kosmos website at www.kosmossocialclub.com. You must submit a form with your money. However, if your address, E-mail, and phone number have not changed, you can simply sign the form at the bottom and submit it with your renewal donation.
Also included with the E-mail and postal versions of this newsletter is a list of Kosmos members as of the end of our fiscal year, which is the end of July.
The "Best Week of Summer" starts on Saturday, August 22, for the Benton-Franklin Fair & Horse Heaven Roundup, with the Grand Parade in downtown Kennewick at 10:00 AM
Events continue that evening with the Demolition Derby, in the newly rebuilt McDaniel Arena. The Horse Heaven Roundup starts Tuesday, August 25, and runs through Saturday, August 29. Details on all Fair events are available at www.bentonfranklinfair.com.
We especially invite all Kosmos members to join those of us who always attend the Thursday night "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" rodeo honoring breast cancer survivors. Wear pink to show your support! (Country singer Lee Brice is the Main Stage concert star that night if rodeo isn't your thing.)
Prior to the rodeo and concert, we'll gather to visit Thursday afternoon in the 3 Eyed Fish Wine Garden & Tap House at the Fair. Thursday also features "3 for a Bite" at many food stands from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Check the Fair brochure when you enter for details on these inexpensive food deals or daily $12 specials!
A single-day admission to the Fair is $6.00 for seniors. These can be bought online, with no fee, to print at home. Everyone can ride the bus for free, and it's the very best way to go to the Fair.
The rodeo starts at 7:00 PM, with all seats reserved. You can visit the Fair office at 812 W. Washington St., Pasco, to purchase tickets, or buy your tickets online for a small processing fee. The rodeo tickets are $10 for August 25-27, and $15 for the 28th and 29th. Several Kosmos members plan to reserve seats for August 27 in Section G, Row I. Yee-haw!!!
