LEADER'S MESSAGE

Hi, Kosmos Friends!

This summer has gone by in the blink of an eye!! The cooler air will be welcome; but the shorter days, not so much. September is a time of transition as the colors change and we prepare for winter. The fields of sunflowers, football, multicolor leaves, and slowing down for school zones are just a few of the things that signal a change of season.

The Labor Day picnic is up next! I hope you can all attend, as it's a great way to get together and visit friends, both old and new! If you haven't renewed your membership, you'll have the opportunity to do so at the picnic. Don't forget to bring your dollar bills, as we will be having our usual horse races—and you might be a lucky winner.

The festivities begin at noon with checking-in and socializing. The main meal will begin at 1:00 PM. Kosmos will provide fried chicken and all serving utensils, plates, and tableware.

You are asked to bring appetizers, salads, or desserts to go with the chicken. Please have all desserts pre-cut to serve! Guests are welcome to come and bring a dish as well. They will be charged a $5 fee—or they can join Kosmos that day in lieu of the $5 fee.

Although there is a lot of seating in the Gazebo, feel free to bring your own chairs. Also bring what you want to drink, but keep in mind that this is a Corps of Engineers park—alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Remember to bring and wear your name tags so everyone will know who you are!

Horse races will be held, so be sure to bring your dollar bills to get in on this fun event!

Please plan to come socialize at our good old-fashioned Labor Day picnic!!!

Directions: Go east on Hwy. 12 toward Walla Walla, cross the Snake River bridge, take the first exit, then go right at the roundabout to cross the highway to Route 124. You'll see the sign to turn left to Hood Park; turn there, then head into the park at the first right. Turn left in the parking lot at the Kosmos sign. The Main Gazebo will be on your right. (Handicapped parking is available by going straight instead of left, and opening the gate to drive down next to the Gazebo.)

Gloria E., who is a Kosmos member and one of our Game Day Coordinators, and Diane L., whom many of you know, are putting on their annual benefit show with costumed dancers from the Chicks, Divas, and Country Line Dancers. There will also be singing performances.

On With The Show will benefit local animal shelters. It will be held at the Pasco Eagles on Saturday, September 13. Doors will open at 3:15 PM; the performance starts at 4:00 PM.

Tickets for this worthy cause are $12, and can be purchased from Sandi F., Diane L., or Gloria E. You can also purchase tickets at the door, but they prefer that you buy them ahead of time, as they may sell out.

All the money raised will be donated to local animal shelters in the Tri-Cities. You can also donate dog and cat food or treats, or an extra check to help local vets care for injured or ill animals. If you can't make it to the show, but still want to donate, contact Diane, Sandi, or Gloria!

MONTHLY MOVIE MATINEE

If you are interested in attending the movie matinee, please RSVP to Carolyn by phone call or text by Monday, two days before the movie. There will be a badged Kosmos host in the lobby of the theater to greet you.

This month's Game Day is being ho;sted by Gloria E. in Kennewick. Please bring finger food or a dessert to share, and your own beverage. (Gloria says that the location where Game Day will be is carpeted, so please consider that when choosing your beverage, as she wants to avoid possible spills of beverages that could stain.)

A wide variety of card and board games will be available, or you can bring your favorite game to enjoy with others. In August, there were members playing Mahjong, Rummikub, and Hand And Foot.

Please be sure to call Gloria so she knows you are planning to attend!

Another fun afternoon of Bunco is scheduled for this month. Bunco is a dice game with players divided into groups of four who try to score points while taking turns rolling three dice. Winners at the end of a series of games win money.

For our Bunco Party, you need to bring $5.50 in one-dollar bills and quarters, plus an appetizer or dessert to share, and your own non-alcoholic beverage. Bottled water will be provided.

If you plan to attend, please call hostess Sue R. and let her know!

Directions: The Richland Library is located at the corner of Northgate Drive and Swift Blvd., in Richland, kitty-corner from Kadlec Hospital.

COMING IN OCTOBER: OUR FALL FROLIC & CHILI FEED

Our annual Fall Frolic is a fun time for one last outdoor gathering before the weather gets cooler. Those not bringing chili are asked to bring condiments such as shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, cornbread, Fritos® or nacho chips, or appetizers or desserts. (Please have your desserts pre-cut.)

Hot dogs and buns with toppings (ketchup, relish, mustard, and mayonnaise) will be provided by the Club for those who don't want chili or who prefer a chili dog. We need a volunteer to barbecue the hotdogs, please.
