LEADER'S MESSAGE

Hi, Kosmos Friends!

October is a time to enjoy the changing foliage and take in Fall festivals in the region. A few of those are described in this Newsletter, including the one at Country Mercantile in Pasco. The pumpkin patch there is wonderful! You can take a wagon ride out to the fields and see all the different sizes and colors of pumpkins and pick what you like off the vines. It's also fun to walk through the corn maze.

I personally enjoy the month of October for pumpkin chai tea, pumpkin Blizzards®, and pumpkin pies. Fall is a good time for picking and making caramel apples, too.

But Kosmos also has some fun events this month: our annual Fall Frolic and traditional chili feed, a bingo party, game day, movie matinee, plus some good eating places to meet up with other Kosmos members and maybe make some new friends.

It's time for one last outdoor gathering before the weather gets too cool. We'll have it in the partly-covered center courtyard at Affinity at Southridge—and we hope for good weather! There are plenty of chairs and tables available, so you need not bring your own seating.

There will be four chilis to taste, compare, and enjoy! Electric outlets will be available to keep the chilis and any other hot dishes warm!

If you're not bringing chili, please bring condiments or suitable go-withs, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, cornbread, Fritos® or tortilla chips, or else a dessert. (Please, have your desserts precut!) Of course, bring you own beverages!

Hot dogs and buns with toppings (ketchup, relish, mustard, and mayonnaise) will also be provided by the Club for those who don't want chili and for those who would like a chili dog.

As usual, the Club provides plates, bowls, and tableware, as well as all the serving utensils that are needed (ladles, spoons, tongs, pie and cake servers, etc.)

Directions: Take Highway 395 to Hildebrand Blvd., turn right if coming from the north (left if coming from the south, from I-82 to reach 395). Just past the second traffic light on Hildebrand, at Southridge Blvd., take the first left into Affinity (across from S. Dawes St.)

Park anywhere in the parking lot. Parking space numbers can be ignored—unless the space has a sign marked "Reserved"; please don't park in "Reserved" spaces. Go in through the main front doors, turn right in the lobby, and then take the first left hallway and go through the glass doors leading to the outdoor center courtyard. You can also park along the outer sides of the complex to directly access the center courtyard.

MONTHLY MOVIE MATINEE

You will be e-mailed or called prior to the 15th regarding the choice of movie and the time.

Tickets for this worthy cause are $12, and can be purchased from Sandi F., Diane L., or Gloria E. You can also purchase tickets at the door, but they prefer that you buy them ahead of time, as they may sell out.

If you are interested in attending the movie matinee, please RSVP to Carolyn by phone call or text by Monday, October 13, two days before the movie. There will be a badged Kosmos host in the theater lobby to greet you. The senior price for the movie that day is $6.00.

TAKE PART IN AN AFTERNOON OF CARDS & OTHER GAMES

Game Day is being hosted by Gloria E. in Kennewick. Please bring finger food or a dessert to share, and your own beverage. (Gloria says that the location where Game Day will be is carpeted, so please consider that when choosing your beverage, as she wants to avoid possible spills of beverages that could stain.)

A wide variety of card and board games will be available, or you can bring your favorite game to enjoy with others.

Please be sure to call Gloria so she knows you are planning to attend.

Another fun afternoon of Bingo is scheduled for October 21. Please note the change in day and time!!! You need to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, and your own non-alcoholic beverage. Bottled water will be provided.

Directions: The Richland Library is located at the corner of Northgate Drive and Swift Blvd., in Richland, kitty-corner from Kadlec Hospital.
